CSK eyeing fast bowlers; Coetzee, Pandey potential acquisitions: Aakash Chopra

Rachin Ravindra, the New Zealand all-rounder, is another player on CSK's radar, according to Chopra.

As the anticipation builds for the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai on Tuesday, Aakash Chopra suggests that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will likely focus on bolstering their fast-bowling department. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Chopra named Gerald Coetzee as a potential overseas seam-bowling addition for the team, emphasizing that they might be willing to spend significantly on him.

Chopra highlighted Coetzee’s proficiency as an out-and-out fast bowler who can be effective at the start and death overs, making him a valuable wicket-taking asset.

Considering the CSK captain’s preference for multi-dimensional players, Coetzee’s specialized role might be an exception worthy of a substantial investment, possibly in the range of 10-14 crore rupees.

While Chopra doesn’t envision Mitchell Starc joining the defending champions, he speculated interest in bowlers like Josh Hazlewood and Lockie Ferguson. Hazlewood, having performed well for CSK in the past, could be a valuable addition, although his availability remains uncertain.

Manish Pandey or Karun Nair to CSK?

Turning attention to the batting department, Chopra suggested that CSK might be eyeing Indian batters, particularly mentioning the possibility of acquiring either Manish Pandey or Karun Nair. Chopra believes that MS Dhoni’s leadership could rejuvenate the underperforming Pandey or provide a solid alternative in Karun Nair.

The reputed commentator also mentioned the potential addition of Shahrukh Khan, a Chennai-based player, to infuse some local flavor into the squad. While acknowledging that CSK doesn’t obsess over having a Chennai-born player, Chopra sees Shahrukh Khan as a viable option.

Rachin Ravindra, the New Zealand all-rounder, is another player on CSK’s radar, according to Chopra. He reasoned that MS Dhoni’s inclination towards such players, coupled with Ravindra’s ability to serve as a backup for Moeen Ali and Devon Conway, makes him a sensible choice for CSK’s strategy in the upcoming auction.
