New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra fetched big bucks at the Indian Premier League 2024 auction. The IPL 2024 auction saw a tug of war between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings for the young Kiwi opener. Rachin had kept his base price at Rs 50 Lakh, but was ultimately bought by CSK for 1.8 crore. He will make his IPL debut in 2024.
The New Zealander had a good 2023 with the bat as well as the ball in T20Is, leading to the growing interest among IPL teams. Rachin has scored 91 runs in 12 matches at an average of over 18. What is interesting is the fact that the southpaw has scored those runs at a strike rate of over 133, which makes him a handy batter in T20 format.
The 24-year-old’s ODI average is even better. He averages over 43 in ODIs and has shown his prowess with the bat in the recently concluded ODI World Cup.
Ravindra is also a left-arm orthodox bowler and his economy rate of just over six in T20Is is phenomenal in the shortest format. He has played 18 matches and has taken 11 wickets at an average of over 22. It is his economy rate of just under nine that has always been a cause of worry. However, Harshal has consistently produced some important breakthroughs in times of need for his IPL teams.
