IPL 2023: GT vs LSG: After warming the bench for the first 10 games, South African batter Quinton de Kock finally played his first match of IPL 2023 and made an impressive half-century. De Kock’s knock of 70 runs came against Gujarat Titans while chasing a daunting total of 228 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
De Kock opened the innings for LSG alongside Kyle Mayers and played the second fiddle while the West Indian took charge against the GT bowlers.
Together, the opening pair stitched together a solid partnership of 72 runs in the powerplay. Despite not playing for a while, De Kock didn’t look rusty in his stroke making as he executed his reverse sweeps with ease.
De Kock suffered a setback when Mayers was dismissed in the ninth over, thanks to a stunning catch by Rashid Khan off the bowling of Mohit Sharma. However, he continued to bat sensibly before completing his 20th half-century in the IPL.
However, lack of support from other end forced De Kock to go on the offensive which resulted in his downfall in the 16th over. De Kock’s 41-ball 70 knock included seven boundaries and three sixes.
The total turned out to be too big for the visiting side as they were restricted to 171/7 in 20 overs. For GT, pacer Mohit Sharma was the star as picked 4 wickets while giving away just 29 runs in a high-scoring chase.
Chasing a mammoth total of 228, LSG began strongly, with Mayers and De Kock amassing 72 runs during the powerplay. However, Mayers was dismissed following a remarkable catch by Rashid Khan, after which the game completely tilted towards Gujarat Titans. Earlier, Wriddhiman Saha (81) and Shubman Gill (94*) played stunning inning to power Gujarat Titans to 227.
