IPL 2023 Schedule: IPL 2023 Start Date – BCCI is zeroing in on the IPL 2023 sechdule. While April 1 is likely to be the start date, the final will be on May 28, Sunday. With WTC Final (World Test Championship Final) starting on June 8 in Oval, BCCI has to shorten the schedule a bit. The initial idea was to play the IPL in a 74-day window. However, IPL 2023 will be only a 58-day affair. The final schedule will be out in first week of February. Follow IPL 2023 LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

“We are in the final stages of discussion for the schedule. It should be out early next month. There will be an IPL GC meeting after the Women’s IPL teams are finalised. We will finalise the list then. For now, the idea is to complete the IPL by May end as the WTC Final is in the 2nd week of June. It should start on April 1. That’s the idea,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

The initial idea was to have the final in first week of June with the start on April 1. As April 1-2 falls on weekends, BCCI could get a good start. The final would have been on June 4. But instead, BCCI has to advance the IPL Final date by a week for the WTC Final preparations.

IPL 2023 Schedule: All you need to know about start and final of IPL –

  • BCCI is mulling April 1 as the start date for IPL as it falls on a Saturday.
  • The final is likely on May 28, Sunday.
  • IPL GC will be held in first week of February to confirm the IPL 2023 Schedule.
  • The IPL window was initially for a longer duration.
  • However, due to WTC Final on June 8, BCCI has to shorten the window.
  • In all likelihood, Australian Test regulars won’t be available for the IPL playoff stage if they qualify for WTC Final.
  • If India qualify, some of the players who will not be in IPL playoffs will have a short camp before the Oval Final.
  • While Australia have all but confirmed their place in the WTC final, India can reach with a 3-1 or 2-0 victory over Australia in the home series next month.

India are favourites after Australia to make it to the WTC Final and they will need some red-ball preparations before the mega final against finalist-elect Australia.

If India confirm their spot in the WTC Final, the Test regulars who will not be part of the IPL 2023 Playoffs will have a short camp. Australia similarly, will pull all Test regulars out from the IPL 2023 at least 10 days before the WTC Final.

“There is a possibility that some of the Australian players might miss the playoff stage. We are in talks with CA to have a minimum impact. But we understand their point as well if they qualify for the WTC Final. But at this point, nothing is final as the WTC Finalists are also not confirmed. We will have some concrete idea after the Australia series,” the BCCI official said.
