Virat Kohli, who has been under fire for his lack of aggression at the top, was dismissed for one as he attempted to walk down the track and smack the left-arm bowler Jason Behrendorff into the stands. Inconveniencing the throngs of Kohli fans who had flocked to the Wankhede Stadium, Kohli managed a thin edge that wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan comfortably pouched.

The on-field umpire did not call a dismissal for Kohli, but Mumbai Indians challenged the decision, causing the IPL’s top run-scorer to be sent back to the pavilion as early as the first over of the game. The 34-year-old will attempt to get back in his mojo in RCB’s upcoming IPL 2023 encounter against the Sanju Samson-led RR on Sunday, May 14

Can RCB still qualify for the Playoffs?

RCB must win all three of their games in order to advance to the playoffs. To increase their NRR, the Faf Du Plessis-led RCB will need to thrash all three of their opponents by a wide margin. RCB will also need other teams’ outcomes to go their way.

The Challengers have played six home matches; the remaining match-ups are two away matches and one home match. On Sunday, they will take on the Rajasthan Royals before heading to Hyderabad to play the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Their last league match of the season will be against the Gujarat Titans on May 21.
