IPL 2023: Rohit Sharma – Sunil Gavaskar has asked Rohit Sharma to take a break from cricket after the MI skipper was dismissed for two runs against GT. Since scoring 65 against Delhi Capitals, the MI skipper has failed to get going in three matches. Gavaskar feels Rohit Sharma is mentally drained out, and he needs a break before the World Test Championship Final (WTC). With WTC final set to be played from June 7, the former India cricketer opined that the MI Skipper should focus on that rather than playing IPL. Follow IPL 2023 Live Updates with InsideSport.IN.
“I would like to see some change in the batting order [for Mumbai Indians]. Honestly, I would also say that Rohit should maybe also take a break for the time being and keep himself fit for the World Test Championship [final]. [He can] come back again for the last few matches, but right now, [he should] take a little bit of a breather himself,” Sunil Gavaskar said while talking to Star Sports as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
IPL 2023: Gavaskar suggests Rohit to take a leaf out of Kohli’s book, asks MI batter to reset goals
For the uninitiated, Kohli had taken a break from cricket after he failed to score a century in over two years for India. The RCB star spoke about mental health and the importance to take a backseat when things are not falling into place.
“I am feeling light for sure. It wasn’t just about the work load of cricket, there were other things that were happening as well which contributed to me going into that space,” Kohli had told Star Sports last year.
Gavaskar believes Rohit is thinking about WTC and is not able to concentrate on scoring match-winning runs for MI. The legendary batter further opined that with a small break, the MI skipper can come back much stronger and would be able to score runs more freely.
“He is looking just that little bit preoccupied. Maybe at this stage he is thinking about the WTC [final], I don’t know,” Gavaskar said. “But I do believe that at this stage, he needs a little bit of a break and come back for the last three or four matches so that he is in rhythm for the World Test Championship [final].”
Speaking about MI, the team is placed seventh on the point table, winning four games from seven games played so far. Rohit Sharma has looked mediocre so far for MI, managing to score just 181 runs from seven games.
