The flamboyant Srilankan Cricketer remained unsold at the IPL 2023 mini-auction in December 2022. But Dasun Shanka was not the only one there were other 5 big mistakes by IPL franchises in the mini-auction that they will regret in IPL 2023. The Left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka was also unsold. The Lankan fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera debuted for Lucknow Super Giants ( LSG) in the last IPL season but remained unsold for a 50 lakh base price.

The bowling all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne was bagged by KKR in IPL 2022 auction, however, he did not get a chance to represent the two-time champions. The 26-year-old Karunaratne remained unsold for IPL 2023. Kusal Mendis and Payhum Nishanka were the other key Lankan player to remain unsold. The IPL mini-auction was held on Friday, 23rd December 2022, in Kochi. The 10 franchises finalised their squads after retaining a set of players ahead of the auction. A total of 80 players were sold with 29 foreign athletes.

The most expensive buy was Sam Curran (England, Punjab Kings) Rs 18.5 crore, the most expensive Indian buy was Mayank Agarwal (Sunrisers Hyderabad) Rs 8.25 crore, the most expensive uncapped Indian buy was Shivam Mavi (Gujarat Titans) Rs 6 crore.
