IPL 2023 Start Date: WTC Final Date – Despite promising a longer 74-day Indian Premier League, BCCI has put the plan on a hold. IPL 2023 will be a 60-day affair. While BCCI hasn’t yet announced the dates yet, it will start on April 1 and the final will be on May 31. The reason to put the longer IPL on hold is World Championships Final. WTC Finals will begin on June 7 at Lord’s. According to ICC rules, no tournament should be held seven days before and after an ICC event. With Women IPL set to begin in March, BCCI only has a 60-day window to conclude the 16th IPL season. Follow IPL 2023 Live updates with InsidSport.IN

“If you look at the entire window, it is longer. We have WIPL and IPL for close to 3 months. But yes, IPL itself is difficult to be longer at this point. But the dates are not final. So, we are still trying to figure out the duration, start and end date suitable not just for players but also for the broadcasters,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

  • The IPL Final and WTC Final dates are very near together
  • IPL window of 74 days was originally planned by BCCI
  • No tournament should be held seven days prior to an ICC event, according to ICC rules
  • As Women IPL is set to be played in March, BCCI only has a two-month window left.
  • BCCI now have a 57-day window to wrap up IPL 2023

While BCCI secretary Jay Shah had previously stated that the IPL would receive an official window of 2.5 months beginning with IPL 2023, the board will now have just under two months to wrap it up. Players’ availability will become increasingly important as the tournament progresses since the dates are dangerously close to the WTC Final.

What did Jay Shah say? – We have been talking with our fellow Member Boards and the ICC about having a bigger dedicated window for the IPL. Let me assure you that there will be a two-and-a-half-month window in the next ICC FTP calendar so that all top international players can participate. Since this tournament benefits all we have received a positive response from the ICC and other member boards,” Jay Shah said.

According to ICC regulations, no tournaments should be held seven days before an ICC event. The IPL 2023 Final must take place in such scenario on or before May 30. Although the ICC has not yet officially announced the dates for the WTC Final, reports from reliable sources confirm that the final is anticipated to take place from June 7 to 11 at the Oval.

There is still time for Team India to qualify for the 2023 World Test Championship Final. The selectors, management, and board will need to juggle and balance a number of dates if India makes it to the final.

Players’ availability a concern: However, there is a possibility that Australian Test players may miss the playoff stage. India too are one of the favourites for the WTC Final. Hence, if both Australia and India qualify for the WTC Final, BCCI may ask the IPL franchises to rotate the squad to keep Indian Test players fresh.

The same goes for Australians. Cricket Australia are already offering conditional NOC to players. But the entire Test team may miss the playoff stage. CA will take a decision closer to IPL.

India are currently second in the WTC points standings. To comfortably advance to the top two, they must win each of their final test matches. Out of the five remaining test matches, one is being played against Bangladesh and four will be played against Australia in February and March.
