As per ESPNCricinfo, Mahela Jayawardene conveyed his decision to quit Souther Brave in a meeting with the franchise officials last week. The Sri Lankan legend coached the side to a title win in the inaugural season, but they struggled in season 2. After being promoted to global performance head, Jayawardene also plays key roles in new MI franchises in ILt20 and SA20.
Meanwhile, the Southern Brave are in the process of identifying a successor. The report states that Jayawardene is himself involved in the handover process to ensure smooth sailing. He is the second coach to part ways with the Hundred after Welsh Fire recently sacked Gary Kirsten.

After the acquisition of MI Emirates and MI Cape Town, Jayuwardene alongside Zaheer Khan was promoted to senior roles. Mahela Jayawardene will provide senior leadership of the group’s cricket operations worldwide, including overall strategic planning, and the creation of an integrated global high-performance eco-system.
His responsibilities also include building the team’s coaching and support structures and working closely with the team head coaches to ensure synergies. He also has to oversee a consistent brand of cricket and the implementation of best practices set by MI.
Mark Boucher was hired as his replacement for Mumbai Indians. Simon Katich takes over at MI Cape Town, while Shane Bond coaches MI Emirates. Former MI stars Robin Peterson, Parthiv Patel, Vinay Kumar and James Franklin are all part of the support staff.
