IPL 2023 Retention

GT Released Players List: Varun Aaron Released, Vijay Shankar Retained

  • Varun Aaron has been around the IPL circuit for over a decade now.
  • The Gujarat franchise drafted the 33-year-old in the mega auction 2022 to add more bite to the pace attack
  •  However, Aaron failed to deliver with the ball.
  • Aaron took two wickets in as many games played, he leaked runs at an alarming rate of 10.40. As a result, he was dropped from the side.
  • With Dayal and Sangwan fairing well for the franchise, Aaron fitting into the starting XI seems difficult going ahead.
  • Vijay Shankar has wealth of experience in the T20 circuit and has been retained by GT
  • The ace all-rounder has played 115 matches and notched up 1733 runs at a strike rate of 124.58.
  •  In four matches, Shankar could only score 19 runs at a strike rate of 54.29 and did not have any impact with the ball either but GT decided to keep their faith in the player, hoping he would perform well the next time.
