India’s preparations for the World Test Championship final have taken another hit. The trio of Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja will arrive in London a day or two later after the IPL 2023 Final was rescheduled. The CSK vs GT clash was marred by rain and subsequently moved to a reserve day, eating away another day of travel for Team India’s stars. The IPL 2023 Final on Sunday was moved to a reserve day after incessant rains in Ahmedabad. The game was completely washed out and moved to the next day to ensure a maximum number of overs be played. The change of dates however has altered the plans of the Indian team as far as their WTC preparations are concerned. Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami are part of India’s WTC squad and were expected to join the squad by May 30. However, the postponement of the match is likely to delay their travel by a day or two.

Most of India’s squad has touched down in the UK before the grand finale. The IND vs AUS WTC Final kicks off on June 7 and will be played at the Oval in London. Captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal left for London on Sunday evening from Mumbai. Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav are also expected to be with the other two Mumbaikars. BCCI has made arrangements for travel until May 30 and expects the rest of the team to travel on the 30th.
It is unlikely that Gill or Shami or Jadeja can begin training straight away after arriving in London. It will only be after June 1 that head coach Rahul Dravid will have his full squad at his disposal. An intra-squad match is mooted and it can only be possible after players from GT and CSK arrive.
The first batch of players has already reached London on the 24th of May. These included the players who failed to make it to the IPL 2023 playoffs. Therefore the likes of Virat Kohli, Ravi Ashwin, Axar Patel and other are busy training in England.
