Whether MS Dhoni will extend his IPL career through this season is still up for debate. After Gujarat Titans were defeated in Qualifier 1 and MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings advanced to the finals, Dhoni stated that he still had 8 to 9 months to make a decision about his future.
It will be challenging even though Thala Dhoni, the franchise, and the fans want to go on for another season. MS Dhoni has been battling a knee problem. He has controlled the ailment throughout IPL 2023. Dhoni will have some time to think things over after the IPL 2023 Final on May 28.

Earlier, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said, he believed Dhoni would continue for one more year before handing over the captaincy reins to someone in the team ahead of IPL 2025 Auction. But the ball is of course in Dhoni’s court to take the call.
“We believe MS Dhoni is going to play next season as well, so I hope fans will continue to support us like every time,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said last week.
However, there remains a belief that Dhoni could very well retire after the game in Ahmedabad. For now, only MS Dhoni knows if a 5th IPL title could put a fullstop on his playing career or the last dance will be in IPL 2024.
