The I, J and K stands were thrown open to spectators for the second India-England Test after being kept closed for 9 years.

The new stands will not only increase the seating capacity but also give CSK fans to witness MS Dhoni play possibly for the final time. The former India skipper had previously expressed his desire to play his final match in front of Chennai fans. IPL 2023 will be back in Chepauk after a three year hiatus. The last time CSK played on this very ground was way back in 2019. Last year the tournament was held in India but only four venues were selected to host the tournament.
