The IPL 2023 auction will take place at Grand Hyatt in Kochi on December 23. The official start is scheduled at at 2.30 pm.

a. How many slots are up for grabs?

Each team is limited to 25 players, including eight overseas cricketers. Following the transfer window and player retention, 87 slots are available. Up to 30 of them may be foreigners. It is expected that approximately 75 players will be auctioned off.

b. How much can teams spend?

The total purse available to all franchises is Rs. 206.50 crore. Sunrisers Hyderabad will enter with the highest purse – Rs. 42.25 crore, while Kolkata Knight Riders will have the least – Rs. 7.05 crore.

c. Players available for IPL auction 2023

A total of 991 players around the world have registered for the IPL 2023 auction. It was later trimmed to 405, out of which 273 are Indian players. However, it is not mandatory that all 273 players be included in the auction.

d. How will the Auction proceed and what is accelerated auction?

  • Hugh Edmeades, the auctioneer, will read out each of the first 86 names, divided into the first 13 sets.
  • The accelerated auction will then begin, depending on the remaining slots and purse available. Each franchise will be asked to submit the names of ten players.
  • Only those names, along with those from the first 86’s unsold list, will be read out. If necessary, a second round of an accelerated auction will be held.
