IPL 2023 Auction: Samarth Vyas: Mike Hesson RCB – With only 8.75 crores of purse remaining, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) cannot go after big players like Stokes, Curran, and Green. RCB director Mike Hesson clearly indicated that they are going after a solid India player in the auction. For the same, the franchise is targeting Samarth Vyas. The hard-hitting Saurashtra batter made heads turn when he hit a whopping 22 sixes in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and struck runs at a strike rate of over 150. With no surety of Glenn Maxwell’s return in IPL 2023, Vyas can solve the issues and also help RCB fire in the middle overs. Follow IPL 2023 Auction Live Updates with InsideSport.IN.
IPL 2023 Auction: RCB director Mike Hesson targets Samarth Vyas, says the Saurashtra batter is on our radar owing to his power-hitting skills
IPL 2023 Auction: Hesson targets Vyas, keen to end middle order muddle – RCB had the worst net run rate in the middle overs scoring runs at 7.2. With Both Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli, not striking above 150, and failing to show consistency, the pressure was huge on Glenn Maxwell to get going from ball one. While sometimes it paid off, the majority of times, RCB were struggling to score 9 runs per over from overs 11-16.
Vyas’s exploits in SMAT and VHT tournaments have interested RCB scout and Hesson. They feel the Saurashtra batter is an ideal foil at number four or five. With acquisition of Vyas RCB’s impact player problem can be solved.
“One of the challenges was do we need to change thinking because of the impact player rule. Don’t think we do. We can use impact players in whatever way we can. We have enough flexibility within our Indian players to come in there and add options. We might look at one or two players in the auction, who have the ability to change up the game any surface we play,” Hesson said.
IPL 2023: Why RCB have set sights on Samarth Vyas?
- Saurashtra’s hard-hitting batter Samarth Vyas has performed well in SMAT 2022.
- It was his strike rate of 151 runs batting at number three, plus his six-hitting prowess that caught the eye of a few IPL teams.
- RCB only have Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell, and Dinesh Karthik striking over 150 strike rate.
- Vyas can attack from ball one and plays a fearless brand of cricket.
- With Saurashtra batter in the team, Kohli can play the anchor role.
- Also, Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik can play their natural game, lower down the order.
- So far, Vyas scored 649 runs in 28 T20 matches at a strike rate f 151 and an average of 30.00.
