IPL 2023 – India vs Australia ODI: Mumbai Indians fans can’t sleep easy these days, as after Jasprit Bumrah another star pacer of their squad has suffered an injury. Jhye Richardson is the latest to join the injury list of the Rohit Sharma-led side. And is now unlikely to play for the five-time champions Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League 2023. Follow IND vs AUS ODI LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

Since pulling his hamstring on January 4, Richardson had not participated in any cricket matches. Although the injury was initially thought to be minor, it took him two whole months to begin playing again. It was believed he would be back in time for the BBL finals.

He didn’t participate in the Perth Scorchers’ BBL championship run and hasn’t played in the Marsh Cup or Sheffield Shield since. Nonetheless, he was chosen to play for Australia in the 16-man ODI squad for the three-match series against India, which gets underway on March 17 in Mumbai.

Richardson has been replaced by Nathan Ellis, who has appeared in three ODIs. In a 50-over match for his club Fremantle against Wanneroo on Saturday in Perth, Richardson made his comeback to competitive cricket. It was hoped that before leaving for India, he would make his domestic comeback in the Marsh Cup final.

But he was only able to bowl for four overs for Fremantle, taking 3 for 5, before leaving the field and going in for a scan. Later, he visited the WACA field to speak with the WA medical personnel.

In addition to the serious shoulder injury he sustained in 2019, Richardson has endured a terrible run of soft-tissue problems over the past two seasons.

Jasprit Bumrah Injury

The biggest nightmare of Team India and the Mumbai Indians come true last month when the recovery of Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah experienced another hurdle.

The 28-year-old is now expected to miss not just the IPL 2023 but also the WTC Final in June after being ignored for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Only the World Cup in 2023, which is still 7 months away, is Bumrah’s target return date.

The explanation is that Bumrah’s injury is thought to be severe and will take months to heal.
