Star RCB pacer Mohammed Siraj has informed the BCCI’s Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) of a “corrupt approach” prior to the Royal Challengers Bangalore vs. Punjab Kings match. The request came from an unidentified man who wanted inside information about RCB after suffering a significant financial loss in a prior Indian Premier League 2023 match. When the India pacer received a call, he immediately informed ACU officials of the situation.
BCCI ACU will investigate Mohammed Siraj matter
“It wasn’t a bookie who approached Siraj. It is a driver from Hyderabad who is addicted to betting on matches. He had lost huge money and approached Siraj for inside information.”
“Siraj reported the approach immediately. The law enforcement authorities have nabbed the man. More details are being awaited,” a BCCI source told PTI.
The BCCI had increased its ACU activity since S Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan, and Ajit Chandila were detained on spot-fixing charges alongside former CSK team principal Gurunath Meiyappan.
A specialised ACU official is assigned to each squad, who stays in the same hotel and is there on the scene to oversee all movements.
Additionally, there is a required ACU workshop for players on dos and don’ts, and punishments are in force if any player fails to report a corrupt strategy.
Unraveling the Confusion
Contrary to earlier reports, it has now been confirmed that the “corrupt approach” made to Star RCB pacer Mohammed Siraj did not happen prior to the Royal Challengers Bangalore vs. Punjab Kings match in the Indian Premier League 2023. Instead, it occurred during the IND vs AUS ODI series earlier this year. Siraj had informed the BCCI’s Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) of the approach made by an unidentified man who was seeking inside information about the Indian team.
It is important to note that the BCCI takes such incidents very seriously and has a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption in cricket. The ACU is constantly monitoring all matches to ensure the integrity of the sport is maintained, and any incidents of corruption are thoroughly investigated.
