Umran Malik – The Jammu and Kashmir speedster has been putting in shifts for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL as he runs contest of his own in the ‘fastest bowler category’ along with Lockie Ferguson. Umran is still uncapped at the national level and his impressive performances could see him earn a call-up to the side. So far in the tournament Umran has bowled the second-fastest delivery at 153.30 kmph and scalping 10 wickets.

Praise for Umran from Brian Lara – The legendary batter had high praise for Umran stating, “Umran Malik reminds me a lot about Fiedel Edwards when he first started, a lot of pace and I hope that he understands it as he goes into international cricket, which I think he’ll eventually play.

“In the IPL, a lot of batsmen get accustomed to playing sheer pace, so I hope that he adds a little bit more to his armoury later on. He’s a quick learner in the nets, he’s willing to learn and it’s just awesome to see India has a pacer of that calibre, it’s just tremendous.”

Tilak Varma – Tilak Varma has been the silver lining on a dark Mumbai Indians (MI) cloud as he continues to impress for the team. With big names like Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan yet to find their form, Tilak has been impressive for MI. Currently on 272 runs in eight IPL games; Tilak Varma could be a good fit in the team if team management decides to rest Virat Kohli after his recent bad patch. Tilak has an average of 45.33 with a best of 61 runs.

Gavaskar applauds Tilak’s composure – The 1983 World Cup winner said – “His composure at the crease has impressed me. The way he’s reading situations and batting accordingly. That is so crucial, when you read the situation well your shot selection is much better.

“He’s growing in confidence with every game, you can see that his place in the team is settled and he’s looking to play different shots. But only when there’s less risk involved and that is the best aspect of his batting. I now want him to convert those 30s-40s into those big 60s-70s. He’s got all the attributes of getting successful at this stage.”

Ayush Badoni – Not many were convinced that Ayush Badoni could be a hit this season in the IPL, the youngster has been in great form for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Ayush could be a perfect fit in the middle order for India while he can also play the role of pitch-hitter. In eight innings so far Ayush has scored 134 runs, a good return considering his batting position. He averages 26.80 and has a personal best tally of 54 runs and could be the missing piece in the puzzle.

Arshdeep Singh – The young Punjab star has been speculated to be part of the contingent if he continues to impress for the Punjab Kings. A modern-day slog overs specialist Arshdeep has been hinted to be the future of Indian cricketing. He was retained by the Punjab franchise ahead of KL Rahul and could be perfect fit for Team India alongside Jasprit Bumrah, imagine slog overs with them both. Arshdeep has so far scalped three wickets in the IPL, but it his economy rate that makes a good reading.

Ravi Shastri delighted with Arshdeep’s performance – “For someone so young and then to deliver time and time again when the chips are down and the pressure is on him (it’s brilliant to see). Arshdeep is holding on to his nerves brilliantly, he’s doing well in death overs. This shows he’s moving up the ranks very quickly and he could be walking into the Indian team,” Ravi Shastri said Speaking on ‘Cricket Live’ on Star Sports.

The South African who was impressive in the U-19 World Cup has scored 124 runs in the IPL so far and has been one mooted to be in line up for a national call-up. Dewald’s exploits with the U-19 side could be a huge difference-maker for his career.
