Notably, the 40-year-old batted well in the first two matches but could not repeat something similar on Sunday, as he trudged along for a frustrating 28-ball 23. Commenting on Dhoni’s slow knock, Gavaskar said on Star Sports “With MSD, what you see is that even if he doesn’t start hitting the big ones, he is moving the strike along, getting those ones and twos. He wasn’t quite able to do that this time around. That’s where CSK got stuck just that little bit.”

While Dhoni struggled to get a move on, Shivam Dube played a fantastic knock of 57 runs from 30 deliveries. Speaking on the lack of support for Dube, Gavaskar further added “Look at those some of those dot balls that he (MS Dhoni) played, yes, later on, he made up with the boundaries. It was a high-class innings from Shivam Dube. Unfortunately, no one could support him. Even MS was off his game a little bit with a strike rate of 80.”
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings suffered their third consecutive defeat at the hands of PBKS, having previously lost against Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants. Ravindra Jadeja’s team will be desperate for a comeback when they face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next outing on April 9.
