On Sunday, Cricket Odisha revealed that their star batsman Subranshu Senapti had received a call up to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp for a selection trial ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. The 24-year-old was one of the stalwarts for Odisha, top-scoring for the state with 275 runs in five games during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Subranshu scored a brilliant century against Andhra Pradesh, helping them to a 63-run win, while also smacked fifties against Vidarbha and Himachal Pradesh, both of who made it to the knockouts.
While Odisha missed out on the knockouts on net run rate, Subranshu Senapati caught the eye with his consistency with CSK taking notice. In 26 T20 matches since his debut in 2017, Senapati has scored 637 runs at an average of 28.95 with three half-centuries to his name. Chennai Super Kings have previously scouted talented youngsters in the domestic circuit and given them the right platform to establish themselves and become stars in the IPL and for the Indian team. Ruturaj Gaikwad is one such fine example and the Maharashtra batsman repaid that faith, winning the Orange Cap to help CSK lift their fourth title in 2021.
CSK will be on the lookout for local talents after their purse was severely depleted by their retentions ahead of the IPL 2022. The defending champions splashed Rs 42 Cr to retain the services of Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad and will have a further Rs 48 crore to spend the IPL 2022 Mega auction. Subranshu Senapati will hope that he impresses in the trials and he becomes one of the players CSK raise their arm for in January.
