As per reports, the IPL 2022 schedule 12 doubleheaders, with the first one being on March 27, just the second day of the tournament. Earlier, BCCI had planned to begin the tournament on March 27, but after further deliberation from broadcasters Star Sports, the schedule was adjusted for the tournament to begin on Saturday, with Sunday being open to host a doubleheader contest. As per reports, a change in timings is also expected, with the afternoon games kicking off at 4 PM, while the evening games will begin at 8 PM IST.
Every franchise will play four matches at the Wankhede Stadium, three at CCI, four at DY Patil Stadium, and three at the MCA ground in Pune. Overall, 20 matches will be played at the Wankhede and DY Patil Stadiums, while 15 each will be played at the Brabourne Stadium and the MCA Stadium in Pune.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India in line with the Maharashtra government have nailed on five venues for practice as preparations are in full flow for the upcoming IPL 2022 season. With 55 league stage games set to be played in Mumbai, the practice venues have been allotted in the vicinity for all 10 teams.
As per the Times of India, each franchise will be based in a separate hotel to ensure that the bio-secure environment is created and maintained at each of the hotels with “dedicated areas” for the teams. A green corridor will be created for the teams to ensure a “safe passage and smooth movement” of the 10 teams for matches and practice.
The five practice venues are as follows
- Brabourne Stadium at Cricket Club of India
- DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai
- Reliance Corporate Park, Navi Mumbai
- MCA Ground, Thane
- MCA Ground, Bandra-Kurla Complex
As per directives, the teams are likely to start arriving in Mumbai around March 8, with practice sessions set to begin from March 14 or 15. As part of the bio-bubble rules, all participants, including players, coaches and support staff, will undergo strict quarantine for 3-5 days before entering the team’s bubble. Should a member test positive, separate arrangements will be made for the person.
Likewise, all players and staff will undergo RT-PCR tests 48 hours before travelling to Mumbai. While in quarantine, the players will be tested thrice and will be allowed to exit the quarantine only if all three tests return negative.
