IPL 2022: Rohit Sharma narrowly misses out half-century against SRH, fifty drought extends for 21 consecutive matches – Watch Highlights
Rohit Sharma who hasn’t been in a good form in the tournament this year, got the team off to a good start on Tuesday at Wankhede Stadium. Chasing a total of 194, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan shared a brilliant opening stand.
Both the players showed positive intent as while Ishan Kishan was hitting the boundaries, Rihit Sharma was dealing in sixes. Rohit’s first three boundaries in the innings were sixes as he was on song in the innings. By the end of 10 overs, the batters had stitched together an 89-run stand.
Just when it looked like the skipper was all set to end his half-century drought, Rohit perished while trying to go for a big shot as he hit one straight into the hands of the fielder at the deep-midwicket. Despite finally looking in a good touch, Rohit couldn’t end his half-century drought as he missed the mark narrowly by two runs.
This is Rohit’s longest half-century drought for the five-time champions. However, this is his second-longest streak as he went without scoring a fifty in 22 consecutive matches for Deccan Chargers in the 2009 edition of IPL.
Apart from his personal form, as a captain too Rohit has endured a poor season as his team could win only 3 matches out of 13 games played so far. Mumbai Indians are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table.
