IPL 2022: RCB drops a HUGE HINT on appointment of Faf Du Plessis as leader of the team, shows how Mike Hesson ‘planned his acquisition in IPL Auction’

DuPlessis RCB New Captain? After almost a decade, Royal Challengers Bangalore will have a change in hands in captaincy. After Virat Kohli stepped down as the captain and AB de Villiers announced his retirement, RCB pushed for a captaincy option in the IPL 2022 auction, picking up Faf du Plessis.

The former South African captain is now set to be named the next RCB captain.

“Faf looks the right choice but we have time to decide. We were waiting for clarity on Maxwell’s situation and availability. Now, that it looks certain that he will be missing the first few matches, Faf is the right choice,” an RCB source confirmed to InsideSport.

After wrapping up IPL 2022 auctions, RCB had three options in Glenn Maxwell, Faf du Plessis and Dinesh Karthik.

However, amongst the three, Faf has been a renowned name in captaincy having led South Africa successfully across all three formats.

IPL 2022: Why Faf du Plessis looks ideal choice for RCB captaincy?

Faf is the only option after Virat Kohli with captaincy experience in international cricket.
A prolific in-form opener, Faf du Plessis will be one of the first names on the team sheet.
Having retired from international cricket, he will also be available for the entire duration of IPL 2022.

The other option was Glenn Maxwell who was considered at first but he will be unavailable in the first few matches. The Australian will be only available from March 12 after serving five-day quarantine following the Pakistan tour.

Dinesh Karthik was the other option especially due to his inputs from behind the stumps. But under his leadership, KKR struggled and he stepped down midway through the season in IPL 2020.

IPL 2022: It’s FINAL, Faf Du Plessis will be named as NEW-CAPTAIN of Royal Challengers Bangalore, announcement coming soon

RCB are the only second team who are yet to announce their captain apart from Punjab Kings. While the RCB source told InsideSport that there is still time, it has been learnt that the franchise wants to get it done as soon as possible. On that line, Faf is expected to be named as the new captain by next week. Furthermore, the franchise will have a 15-day camp starting mid-March.
