Shastri has asked Pant to bat in Andre Russell mode without taking load of captaincy while batting. He still feels the wicket-keeper batter can turn matchwinner in the remainder of the IPL.

“I feel once he gets the tempo going he shouldn’t change, he should be in the [Andre] Russell mould in this format of the game,” Shastri said on ESPNcricinfo’s T20 Time Out.

“You get your eye in, you’re striking it well – don’t think too much. No matter who the bowler is, if it’s there to be smacked, smack it. Who knows, you might win more matches than people expect you to,” he added.

  • Rishabh Pant has reached 20+ in last 8 innings but failed to convert it into fifties.
  • Pant is playing at a strike rate part 150 but failed to finish off matches for Delhi Capitals.
  • DC are heavily reliant on Pant, he needs to score runs off his willow to stay in fray for the playoff race.
  • The Capitals have lost 5/ last 7 matches and Pant’s scores in those games read 43(29), 34(17), 44(24), 44(30), 21(11).
  • Shastri feels that it’s not entirely for Pant to finish the match all by himself.
  • Former RCB & New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori also feels that Pant is best when he is reckless.

“Rishabh Pant is almost at his best when he’s reckless, and we’ve seen him play some exceptional innings when he just continues to take teams down time and time again,” Vettori said on ESPNcricinfo.
