IPL 2022 Mega Auction: Top 10 players whom franchises will be monitoring in Vijay Hazare Trophy – Indian domestic stars have an opportunity to grab headlines and make their case when the Vijay Hazare trophy kicks off. With the mega auctions set to take place in January, the tournament provides the players with the perfect opportunity to potentially earn some big bucks in the auction. A host of players including IPL stalwarts, emerging players all will be in contention and here, we look at 10 players whom franchises will be monitoring in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

1. Manish Pandey (Karnataka)

All has not gone well for Manish Pandey after Sunrisers Hyderabad paid a whopping Rs 11 cr to sign him up in the last mega auction. Pandey has struggled to seal his place in the Indian team and was dropped due to poor form earlier last season, signifying his decline. Nonetheless, Pandey remains an IPL regular and will hope to light up the Vijay Hazare Trophy to increase interest in his services, and show a glimpse of his seamless potential.

2. Shahrukh Khan (Tamil Nadu)

Shahrukh Khan grabbed headlines with his stunning last-ball six to help Tamil Nadu defeat Karnataka and win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. One of the finest finishers in domestic cricket, Shahrukh was signed up by the Punjab Kings last season, and displayed his potential with cameos in Phase 1, but lost his place as the tournament progressed. The Tamil Nadu star will hope to make his mark in the Vijay Hazare tournament, and increase the demand for his services.

3. Sanju Samson (Kerala)

Retained as Rajasthan Royals captain, Sanju Samson will have a point to prove each time he takes the field. Samson was not considered for the T20 World Cup squad and the series at home against New Zealand and will have to work harder to win back his place in the squad. The Kerala batsman had his best IPL season last year with 482 runs, and will look to keep piling the runs in a bid to remain in touch when the IPL rolls back into town.

4. Arjun Tendulkar (Mumbai)

Arjun Tendulkar, Sachin Tendulkar’s son, has a massive weight on his shoulders but the all-rounder has shown he can deal with it without much fuss. Arjun gained some much-needed experience and was part of the Mumbai Indians squad last season. He will hope to make a mark in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and hopefully break into an IPL team and experience top-level cricket.

5. Yashasvi Jaiswal (Mumbai)

Rajasthan Royals decided to invest in youth and kept hold of Yashasvi Jaiswal and the youngster remains one of the most promising players of his age group. A fearless opener, Jaiswal has already set multiple records in domestic cricket, and Royals will hope that he continues to do so in the build-up to the IPL 2022. On a personal note, Jaiswal will be keen to break into the India A team and gain more experience in playing top-level cricket.

6. Shreyas Gopal (Karnataka)

Shreyas Gopal has seen his stocks fall in recent years, and found himself out of favour at Rajasthan Royals. A willy leg-spinner Gopal has been in the mix for a long time in the IPL and also doubles up as a reliable option lower down the batting order. The leg-spinner has been a stalwart for Karnataka in domestic cricket and will hope to take the tournament by storm and earn a good deal at the IPL 2022 auction.

7. Yuzvendra Chahal (Haryana)

Yuzvendra Chahal has a point to prove after losing his place to Ravichandran Ashwin in the T20I team. Chahal was also let go by RCB before the IPL 2022 mega auction and the leg spinner will hope to make his mark in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Chahal is amongst India’s leading wicket takers in T20Is, and a host of teams will be eyeing his services when he enters the auction.

8. Jaydev Unadkat (Saurashtra)

Jaydev Unadkat has been a stalwart in the domestic circuit and but has found himself in and out of the Rajasthan Royals team over the last two seasons. The left-arm pacer is well known for his variations and can offer a very good Indian option in the bowling attack for teams. Unadkat will eye for a strong showing in the tournament and earn a solid contract in the auction.

9. Ruturaj Gaikwad (Maharashtra)

IPL 2021’s Orange cap holder Ruturaj Gaikwad was retained by the Chennai Super Kings and will have the burden of expectation to continue his good form into the next season. Named captain of Maharashtra, Gaikwad will hope to replicate the success he earned with CSK in the domestic circuit and continue knocking on the door of the Indian team.

10. Dinesh Karthik (Tamil Nadu)

Dinesh Karthik missed the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with injury, but returns for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. A veteran now, Karthik has one final opportunity to earn a good contract and prolong his career and was released by Kolkata Knight Riders. Karthik, who has converted himself into a fine finisher in the shortest format of the game, will be keen to prove his fitness and mettle when he takes the field for Tamil Nadu.
