IPL 2022 Mega-Auction in January 1st week, franchises will be asked to send 4 retained players list by December

IPL 2022 Mega-Auction – IPL Auction in January: InsideSport had already reported on Monday that the BCCI will allow new teams to pick ‘three free picks’ from the auction pool.

What is 3 Free Picks? This means both new franchises will have the right to pick 3 players from the auction pool even before the start of actual auctions. As InsideSport reported, BCCI informed existing franchises that they will be able to retain 4 players. As that would have put the new franchises at huge disadvantage, BCCI informed the franchises in a letter that they will allow three players to be picked from the auction pool before the start of the MEGA AUCTIONS. BCCI feels this move bring the new franchises at par with the old.

“It’s a proposal and we have had a discussion on the matter (three picks) but it’s not yet final. A lot of things are still to be worked out. It was discussed to level the playing field for the two new teams as they will start from scratch. RTMs will be decided soon,” the BCCI official had told InsideSport on Tuesday.

IPL 2022 Auction: BCCI deliberating ‘3 free picks for the new teams’, old franchises ‘uncomfortable with the idea’

IPL 2022 Mega-Auction – IPL 2022 Retention Rules: InsideSport reached out to two old franchises on their take on the proposed moved by BCCI. Both the franchises were very uncomfortable with the idea.

“We (the particular franchise) don’t agree to the three picks from the pool until and unless BCCI informs us clearly on the RTMs. The question is will we be able to use RTM for players whom new teams will target as the first three picks? We need clarity on that,” a franchise official told InsideSport.

IPL 2022 Mega-Auction – IPL Auction in January: However, BCCI or IPL Governing Council is yet to formalize the retention policy & the same is expected tp be announced in the coming week. BCCI is also yet to communicate salary-benchmarks for the retained players & also the final player purse for IPL 2022 Auctions.

“We had a discussion about the retention policy and we were informed about what it is going to look like. We all agreed that 4 retentions would be important to have some continuity for the existing franchises. As of now, we will be allowed to use two RTMs but many of us feel that it should be at least three and should increase if the number of retentions is less than 4 as discussed,” a franchise official told InsideSport.
