BCCI earlier set December 25 deadline for the two new franchises to sign three new players. However, the pending issue with CVC Capital’s Ahmedabad franchise deal meant the deadline got extended. The BCCI is yet to officially announce the date. However, InsideSport has learnt that IPL Governing Council has approved January 31 as the deadline.
It was possible after US-based CVC Capital was cleared by the BCCI’s independent committee. The firm won the bidding rights to the Ahmedabad franchise in October but was subjected to a probe by BCCI for its alleged ties with betting companies.

After BCCI’s independent committee gave the firm green signal, it will sign a fresh contract with the Indian board coming week. InsideSport has learnt that the franchise officials are in Mumbai to sign the IPL franchise contract.
“Some additional clauses are being added to the contract. Legal teams of both sides have agreed on the new drafts. We should complete the signing process next week,” a top BCCI official told InsideSport.
IPL 2022: What is the new development in CVC saga?
- After getting green signal from the independent committee, CVC Capital will sign a fresh contract with BCCI for the Ahmedabad franchise.
- CVC Capital officials are in Mumbai to sign the contract. BCCI is currently drafting a fresh one adding some new clauses.
- The BCCI will formally announce the deadline of January 31 to sign three players once the signings are done.
- Ahmedabad team is also set to make some key announcements in the next 5-10 days.
- Once they receive the ‘Letter of Intent’ formally, the franchise will float commercial packages.

While the other newly announced IPL franchise Lucknow has formally announced the head coach, batting coach and mentor besides the title sponsor, Ahmedabad is yet to. However, the CVC-backed team is all set to make some key announcements in the next 10 days. Apart from that, the franchise has already begun appointing key officials for the corporate team.
Once the franchise completes the contract signing next week, it will float the commercial packages including title sponsor, chest sponsor and other sponsorships.

Meanwhile, the RPSG-backed Lucknow franchise is preparing for its return to IPL in full swing. They have announced Gautam Gambhir as their mentor while roping in former Punjab Kings batting coach Andy Flower as the head coach. Vijay Dahiya has been appointed as the assistant coach.
Apart from that, they have signed a deal with fantasy gaming platform MyCircle11 as the title sponsor for the next three years. Lucknow franchise has also launched a unique name hunt for the franchise. The fans will now be suggesting the team’s name.
