Rahul fails to impress – The talented right-hand batter has been in superb form this season, trailing only to Jos Buttler in the Orange Cap standings. After the latest dismissal against his former side PBKS, Rahul has 374 runs in nine innings, which includes two hundreds. Interestingly he has also been dismissed twice on a duck. Rahul averages 53.42 in the IPL 2022 while his strike rate is also impressive which reads at 143.84. His latest failure could now see Jos Buttler take advantage and extend his lead.
Why did PBKS release KL Rahul? – While there were much hype and build up surrounding the performance of Rahul, his relationship with franchise was also a topic of debate. PBKS tried to retain him at the back end of last season before the auctions took place in February. But the player was reluctant and refused to sign, instead joining as the captain of new franchise LSG.

Rahul breaks silence – The former PBKS captain took to the media prior to the start of the current season and said, “I have been with them for four years and I’ve had a great run with them. Just wanted to see what’s in store for me and if there’s a new journey for me. It was a tough call obviously. I have been attached to Punjab for a long time. I wanted to see if I can do something else.”
Owner and CEO Ness Wadia opens up on the Rahul release – The KL Rahul release matter was in limelight when team owner and CEO Ness Wadia also decided to jump in and said, “I think KL is exemplary in anything and everything he has done. The way he has fought back after going through a lot of issues two years ago – he’s one of the only cricketers who is consistent. But like I said cricket is about 11 team members, not one.”
Rahul’s great start at LSG – Rahul’s great form though has been a hallmark of a great player as he continues to make progress both as a player and a captain. Since leaving the franchise he has led the Indian team in both limited-overs and Test match cricket. His impressive performances for LSG could be a bitter pill to swallow for PBKS as they struggle in the mid-table of the IPL standings.
