IPL 2022 – KL Rahul ‘HIGHEST PAID IPL player’ – IPL’s new franchise Lucknow has already hit a SIX. Lucknow has made KL Rahul the joint-most expensive player in IPL history. IPL 2022: KL Rahul becomes ‘HIGHEST PAID IPL player’ after Lucknow IPL franchise SIGN him for 17 CRORES annual salary

The Indian Premier League (IPL) two new teams — Ahmedabad and Lucknow have officially named their draft picks ahead of the upcoming mega auction for the 2022 season. Lucknow has opted to go with KL Rahul (Rs 17 crore), Marcus Stoinis (Rs 9.2 crore), and Ravi Bishnoi (Rs 4 crore), with Rahul being the joint most expensive player in IPL history, and the highest amongst retainers so far.

KL Rahul ‘HIGHEST PAID IPL player’: The franchise has also named Rahul as captain, while Andy Flower has already been named the coach of the Lucknow franchise. Former India batter and two-time IPL winner Gautam Gambhir will serve as the mentor of the franchise.

“I have been really impressed by the leadership skills of KL Rahul. He is a phenomenal leader,” said Sanjiv Goenka, owner of the Lucknow franchise.

“It’s an honour to the part of Lucknow IPL and RPSG group. And thanks to Sanjeev Goenka,” said KL Rahul after the retention was confirmed.

Earlier, KL Rahul had made his intentions clear that he wanted a fresh start following four years with Punjab Kings, in which he was captain for the last two seasons. Rahul never made the IPL playoffs at Punjab and the chance to build and challenge for title swayed over his heart. The 29-year-old leaves Punjab as their leading run-scorer, having scored over 2500 runs in the last four seasons.

KL Rahul ‘HIGHEST PAID IPL player’: KL Rahul will be joined by fellow Punjab Kings teammate Ravi Bishnoi at Lucknow. The former U-19 World Cup star, Bishnoi has shone as one of the more promising talents over the last couple of years and will relish the chance to be the lead spinner at the new franchise.

Lucknow finalised Marcus Stoinis as their overseas recruit after the Australian enjoyed two stellar seasons with Delhi Capitals. A hard-hitting middle-order batsman, Stoinis can also chip in with overs of medium pace and is the cream of the crop as far as pace bowling all-rounders are considered in the IPL auction.
