IPL 2022: CSA confirms player availability for IPL – IPL franchises were handed a major boost just a day before the auction with Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirming the availability of the Proteas stars for the entirety of the IPL 2022. With the likes 9f Quinton de Kock and Kagiso Rabada up for grabs, their availability was questionable with a scheduled tour against Bangladesh. However, the South African stars could very well receive an allowance from their board, and the CSA reportedly are considering allowing their stars to feature in the cash-rich league. IPL 2022: Huge boost for franchises, CSA confirms releasing South African players early for IPL 2022 despite Bangladesh series
In a report by Cricbuzz, Cricket South Africa confirmed that it will consider releasing players from the series against Bangladesh should they be picked up in the IPL 2022 auction. The series clashes with the start of the IPL with many stars such as Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen and Anrich Nortje potentially remaining unavailable till at least April 11, two weeks into the season.
Lawson Naidoo, the CSA chief told Cricbuzz, “We will consider the matter after the IPL auction has taken place when we know which players are going to play in the IPL.”
The comments come right before the IPL 2022 auction and it could certainly boost the interest of the franchises in South African stars. While Anrich Nortje was already retained by the Delhi Capitals, Kagiso Rabada, Quinton de Kock and Marco Jansen are all among prospective overseas buys over the weekend with as many as 33 Proteas stars making the final list.
The IPL 2022 is expected to start on March 27 and those coming after April 11, would not be available for five-six matches because of the five-day period of required quarantine after their arrival in India. Asked if the likes of Rabada and Nortje will be released, the CSA boss said, “The team management has not discussed the matter as yet.”
