IPL 2022: Good news can land Mumbai Indians door, ECB to revisit ‘Decision on PERMISSION’ to Jofra Archer for IPL 2022
Mumbai Indians Jofra Archer – MI picked Archer at the auction for whooping 8 Crore. The selection of the 26-year-old was based on him being available in the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
ECB right from the beginning was insistent that Archer can’t join IPL this season.
Wary that sending a centrally contracted player like Archer to the IPL for his comeback would not be a good look. Former England director of cricket Ashley Giles blocked such an eventuality.
Now The Daily Telegraph has reported that this subject could be re-visited next month.
The paper reports that ECB will not rush Archer this year for the test matches but a T20 return is a possibility. The report further claims that Archer could feature in The Hundred & may be allowed to play few games in IPL.
Archer is already training alongside his England colleagues & may also travel to Carribbean along with the team.
IPL 2022: Good news can land Mumbai Indians door, ECB to revisit ‘Decision on PERMISSION’ to Jofra Archer for IPL 2022Archer has played just six of England’s 26 Test matches since the start of 2020 and he has not represented his country in any format since the T20 series in India last March.
‘Right now, I can do everything but it’s small steps,’ he said. ‘I have no idea when I will be playing matches, I am just trying to build up and it’s all about what I can tolerate at any given time.
Mumbai Indians on their side are not too anxious about Archer’s availablity for IPL 2022. According to promoters, Archer is their LONG TERM INVESTMENT.
Mumbai Indians “always have a short-term goal and a long-term vision”, owner Nita Ambani said after the franchise splurged Rs 8 crore to buy Jofra Archer, a staggering amount given the pacer is not expected to be available for the 2022 season.
“Mumbai Indians always have a short-term goal and a long-term vision. Some of the players that we buy are also meant for long-term vision,” Nita said after the auction.
“I have to assure all our fans that we do our best at the auction and keeping the players in mind, we hope we can continue to make our fans smile by playing well for all of us,” she added.
