Why Home Advantage to MI? As per a report by TOI, few franchises have voiced their reservations against Mumbai Indians enjoying undue home advantage.
The report states that some of the franchises are not comfortable with the idea of Mumbai Indians playing at their ‘home ground’ of Wankhede Stadium.
As things stand, BCCI has identified Maharashtra as the venue for the league stage with 70 league games spread across Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, DY Patil stadium in Mumbai and the Gahunje Stadium in Pune. A BCCI team is likely to do a final recce.
“None of the other teams are getting home matches. It will be unfair if MI play a lot of their matches at Wankhede, which has been their den for years. The franchises have raised this concern. The franchises don’t have an issue with Mumbai Indians play bulk of their matches at DY Patil stadium and in Pune. Even the Brabourne stadium is fine. Hopefully, the BCCI will look into the matter,” a franchise source is quoted in the report.
IPL 2022: Franchises unhappy with Mumbai Indians “home advantage” as BCCI identify Wankhede as venue
Last year, during the Phase 1 held in India, the BCCI had ensured that no teams played games at their home venues.
Mumbai Indians themselves were made to play five games at “alien conditions” in Chennai. And Chennai Super Kings some of their matches in Mumbai. All the 8 IPL Teams were not given any home matches.
Protesting Franchises want BCCI to intervene: The IPL Governing Council is scheduled to meet today. The matter is likely to be addressed by GC Members.
