IPL 2022: Vijay Dahiya named Lucknow assistant coach – As InsideSport earlier reported, Vijay Dahiya has been named assistant coach of the Lucknow franchise. He will reunite with former India, Delhi and KKR teammate Gautam Gambhir, who has been named mentor. Andy Flower will be the head coach while KL Rahul is all set to be named captain of the team. “I am delighted and grateful for the opportunity given to me to work with the Lucknow IPL franchise,” Vijay Dahiya, who has played two Tests and 19 ODIs for India, said in a statement.

The former India wicketkeeper-batsman is currently the Uttar Pradesh state team’s coach and is busy with Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has earlier worked as an assistant coach of two-time IPL-winning Kolkata Knight Riders. He has also served as the talent scout for the Delhi Capitals, apart from coaching the Delhi Ranji team.
The Lucknow team, which is part of the RPSG Group, had earlier appointed Andy Flower as head coach and Gautam Gambhir as the mentor ahead of next year’s IPL.
On Saturday, the Lucknow franchise announced roping in Gautam Gambhir as the mentor of the team ahead of their maiden season in IPL.

“Gambhir brings with him a proven track record in the IPL as captain for KKR. He also has a penchant for grooming young talent which Lucknow feels will suit them well ahead of what is expected to be a tough initiation into an increasingly competitive IPL scenario,” TOI quoted a source.
On Friday, the Lucknow franchise announced the signing of Andy Flower as their head coach with special permission. InsideSport has also learnt that it has finalised a deal with former Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul. However, it will not be able to announce anything due to BCCI’s temporary ban on making any official announcement due to ongoing issues related to CVC backed Ahmedabad IPL franchise.
