Delhi Capitals’ betting big on U-19 captain Yash Dhull will be first of many things to come. Like DC, many franchises have already supported a draft or a transfer window like football and if the BCCI decides to that route, a special emphasis could be on next-gen players and their academies will play a big role. InsideSport takes a look at franchises that already have opened academies.
CSK Academy: MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings are one of the teams that depend on their core players and back them until they are successful. With their new academies in Salem and Chennai, the target is to churn out players and focus on youth.
DC Academy: Delhi Capitals are one the teams that back young players over the big names. Backing a young Shreyas Iyer or Rishabh Pant as the captain shows their intent. Of late, Avesh Khan is another big example. The academy in Delhi has churned out India’s U-19 captain Yash Dhull and he went on to create a record, slamming twin hundreds on his Ranji Trophy debut. DC went all in to get their talent back, paying Rs 50 lakh at the auction.
