South Africa Players IPL 2022 – Not only the Proteas captain but Head coach Mark Boucher is also very upset with the players chosing IPL over national team.

He also agreed with his skipper. Bouch said the players played IPL and have vacate their spots.

Why is Elgar & Boucher disappointed?

  • Elgar was extremely disappointed when star players Rabada, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, and Lungi Ngidi gave preference to IPL.
  • Before the decision was made, the South African skipper was quoted as saying that this will be their loyalty test. He reportedly was confident that players would play the Test series.
  • That did not happen and Elgar was left hurt.

South Africa v Bangladesh: South Africa register comfortable 2-0 series win over Bangladesh

Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer bowled South Africa to a comfortable 332-run win on the fourth day of the second Test against Bangladesh in Gqeberha.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 80, losing their remaining seven wickets inside an hour at St George’s Park.

It sealed a 2-0 series win after a 220-run success in the first Test in Durban last week.

Left-arm spinner Maharaj took 7-40 and off-spinner Harmer claimed 3-34.

It was Maharaj’s second seven-wicket haul in successive matches after he took 7-32 in the first Test.

“If you’re playing good cricket and the results are going your way, it’s always going to ease the burden of captaincy. We’re in a very special place, which makes me feel a lot happier about what I’m doing,” Elgar said.

South Africa were forced to make two changes ahead of the day’s play after Sarel Erwee and Wiaan Mulder both tested positive for Covid-19.

It meant Khaya Zondo and Glenton Stuurman became the first Covid replacements in Test cricket since the International Cricket Council decided in June 2020 to allow substitutes in Test matches for players testing positive for coronavirus.

South Africa though won the Test series by a convincing margin of 2-0 against Bangladesh. Several new players stepped up and showed their class. Elgar was pretty happy with the result and feels the team is heading in the right direction.

“The last year has been extremely testing off the field. I have an amazing core of players around me who understand me as a character and respect me as a player and a person. They understand the kind of cricket I want to play. Most of the senior guys have bought into it.”
