“I am sure that is MS Dhoni’s doing itself. He knows the value that Jadeja has to the unit. I think from what I understand, Jadeja might be someone who could end up leading the squad in the future as well when MS Dhoni retires. They have given him the due he deserved,” Uthappa told Star Sports.
“He is the guy whom they are investing in to be the next captain. He has been terrific as a player. He has done well in Test cricket, we have seen him batting at No. 6 in ODI cricket as well. So I would like to see him take that responsibility. So I think Ravindra Jadeja will take over as captain once MS Dhoni decides not to play,” he added.
Bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji further added: “Jadeja is a proven CSK performer. What he has done in the recent past with the bat and the ball has been phenomenal.”

- With Suresh Raina failing to continue his magic at CSK last season, talks around making him the next captain find no place. The left hander has been a crucial cog for Dhoni & Co but misfired in IPL 2021. He might have to rely on team management for another chance.
- R Jadeja has experience playing 200 matches in IPL and plays all three formats for Team India.
- He has scalped 127 wickets at an economy rate of 7.61 and scored 3816 runs at an average of 30.04.
- He scored 227 runs and took 13 wickets last season to guide Chennai Super Kings to the fourth IPL trophy.
- Jadeja’s salary cap has risen from Rs 7 crore to Rs 16 crore which is even double and MS Dhoni accepting a pay cut speaks volumes about his role in the franchise.
- The CSK stalwart will turn 33 years old on December 6 and could possibly lead CSK for 2-3 seasons. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni is likely to play to a full season of IPL 2022 but reports say otherwise.
