IPL 2022 – Covid Threat on IPL? In what could be a huge setback for the fans, the IPL 2022 season could possibly shift back to a closed-doors event. The tournament kicks off on March 26 with 50% spectators allowed at this stage. But all these permissions can be withdrawan in next 7 days. Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope told ANI, “We have received a letter from the central government to be on alert as there is a surge in Covid-19 cases across European Countries, South Korea and China.

Accordingly, our health department had issued a letter to DCs to be cautious and take necessary steps. IPL matches we don’t want to comment right now”

Covid Threat on IPL? Will Permission to allow spectators will be withdrawn? The entirety of the IPL 2022 is all set to be held in a bio-bubble in Maharashtra with 70 league stage matches set to be held in Mumbai and Pune. The IPL GC and the Maharashtra Government had planned on allowing 50% crowd for the matches, with the fall of COVID-19 cases over the past few weeks, with ticketing information also available for the tournament.

However, just a week before the tournament’s scheduled kick off, those plans have been hit with a major roadblock due to a rise in COVID-19 cases. As per ANI, the central government has alerted the Maharashtra government of growing cases in European Countries, South Korea and China.

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope told ANI, “We have received a letter from the central government to be on alert as there is a surge in Covid-19 cases across European Countries, South Korea and China.

As per reports, Maharashtra reported 171 new Covid-19 cases and three deaths on Friday. According to the state health department, 394 people recovered from the disease on Friday while the active number of cases stood at 1,680.

With the new cases, the infection tally in the state reached 78,72,203.

The new fatalities pushed the Covid death toll in Maharashtra to 1,43,765.

As for the IPL,  the entirety of the 2020 season was held in the UAE after it was postponed due to the 1st wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2021 season began in India in April but was later postponed and shifted to the UAE after an outbreak in May.

The season was completed in October in the UAE.

As for IPL 2022, the BCCI is hosting the entire IPL league stage in Maharashtra. The venue for the playoffs is yet to be announced.
