However, a final decision will be taken only on February 20 after taking stock of the Covid situation of Maharashtra.
“IPL 2022 will be held in India and the tournament will be staged without crowds in attendance. Likely venues for IPL 2022 are Wankhede Stadium, Cricket Club of India (CCI), DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai and if needed, we can look at Pune as well,” ANI quoted a source as saying.

IPL BCCI Franchise Meeting: 3 Big Things decided
1) IPL in INDIA or South Africa? The BCCI and IPL team owners discussed and decided to go ahead with India as the venue for IPL 2022. The tournament will be held in Mumbai in three stadiums while Pune will be on standby.
2) The mega auction venue: The auction will take place in Bengaluru as originally planned on February 12 and 13. Mumbai was kept on as a standby venue in case the Covid situation worsens in Bengaluru.
3) Tentative Date & Schedule: While a final decision is yet to be taken, the BCCI informed the franchises that IPL will tentatively start on March 27.

This meeting was the first of its kind this season and with owners of all franchises attending. The owners of two new franchises, Lucknow and Ahmedabad, were also inducted with the eight original owners. While the Lucknow franchise is owned by the Sanjiv Goenka-backed RPSG Ventures Ltd, Ahmedabad is run by CVC Capital Partners.

After hosting IPL 2020 & part of IPL 2021 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), BCCI is not keen to take the IPL to the Emirates nation. The board rather is interested in hosting IPL 2022 in South Africa.
