The restrictions are expected to include a cap on gatherings preventing BCCI to host the auctions.
IPL 2022 Auction Venue: Why BCCI could shift the venue?
- Pro Kabaddi League has taken one of the biggest properties in Sheraton Grand, Whitefield Hotel.
- With the Karnataka govt set to issue fresh Covid-19 restrictions including a cap on gatherings, the hotels have asked BCCI to wait.
- The change in venue is also likely to force the BCCI to change the dates as all standby cities are currently witnessing a surge in Covid cases. Many cities have already imposed restrictions.
- The standby cities including Kolkata, Mumbai and Kochi are currently under restrictions.
- BCCI is in talks with other state associations for a last-minute change.
- The IPL 2022 Auction is expected to see hundreds of franchise officials gathering at the venue which can be a problem due to Covid restrictions.
IPL 2022: Entire IPL 2022 in Maharashtra? According to a report, BCCI is preparing up PLAN B to stage the entire IPL in Maharashtra. The development comes amid a fresh spike in COVID cases in the country. The final schedule & venue will be announced after IPL 2022 mega Auction. Follow IPL 2022 latest updates on InsideSport.IN
BCCI has kept three venues — Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Gahunje, near Pune– as backups for smooth conduct of IPL 2022.
PL 2022: Entire IPL 2022 in Maharashtra? The IPL is usually played across 10 stadiums in home and away format but the BCCI has pruned the venues to 4 amid record-breaking COVID cases in India (1.79 lakh on Monday). As many as 44,388 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Maharashtra during the last 24 hours, as per the state health department on Sunday. The surge in cases had already forced BCCI to postpone all domestic tournaments on January 5.
Reducing the venues to just three in Mumbai another one nearby can help BCCI prevent air travel which played a spoilsport during phase 1 of IPL 2021.
“As of now, the plan is to stage the IPL in India. If, however, the Maharashtra option too is ruled out in the future, then the BCCI might be forced to take the IPL to the UAE again,” revealed a source.
