IPL 2022 Auction: WB Sports Minister in IPL Auction – West Bengal’s Minister of State for Sports Minister Manoj Tiwary will be the first active politician in the IPL auction. Manoj Tiwary has registered his name for the base price of Rs 50 lakh. The last time he featured in the IPL was back in 2018 when he turned out for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). However, in IPL 2019, 2020 and 2021 he went unsold in the auction.

He played 98 matches in the IPL, scoring 1,695 runs at an average of 28.72 including seven half-centuries. His best season was in 2017 when he scored 324 runs at an average of 32.40. However, after the IPL snub, he continued to ply trade in the domestic circuit before entering politics. He was elected from the ruling Trinamool Congress in 2021 in the WB Assembly Elections.  Manoj Tiwary however returned to cricket and was picked in Bengal’s Ranji probables.

Manoj Tiwary’s last competitive game was back in 2021 when he played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Bengal. Tiwary has played 12 ODIs and 3 T20Is for India, scoring 287 and 15 runs respectively. In domestic cricket, he has played 125 First-Class matches and 163 List A games, scoring over 14,000 runs.

Meanwhile, BCCI released a shortlist of 590 players for the IPL 2022 Auction on Tuesday. Amongst them, 220 are overseas players while 370 are Indians. Of the registered players,  228 are capped players, 355 are uncapped players and 7 belong to Associate Nations.

The 10 IPL franchisees – Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Team Ahmedabad will also be bidding to have some of the biggest cricketing names – Faf du Plessis, David Warner, Pat Cummins, Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult, Quinton de Kock, Jonny Bairstow, Jason Holder, Dwayne Bravo, Shakib Al Hasan, Wanindu Hasaranga, etc. – in their squad.
