The 23-year old from Jharkhand was released by the Mumbai Indians ahead of the auction this year. While it was expected that he will be grabbed by the two new franchises Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans, both the teams failed to pick him and he now finds himself in the auction.
He is expected to be the most sought-after player as he brings with him the ability to bat at any position. He is a kind of a player who can attack from ball one and along with being a wicket-keeper, he can be a massive asset to any team.
Can Ishan Kishan break the Most Expensive IPL Player Record?
The record for the most expensive buy at the IPL auction currently belongs to Chris Morris as with Rajasthan Royals fetched him for 16.25 Crore last year. With Ishan Kishan brininging with him a 3-in-1 utility, he has all the qualities to surpass Morris.

Mumbai Indians spent INR 6.20 crore on Ishan Kishan back in the IPL 2018 auction and it was a team where he flourished. He has scored 1133 runs in 45 matches for the five-time champions, which includes eight half-centuries. Ishan’s best performance came in the 2020 edition where he finished as the fifth-highest run-scorer in the season. He scored 516 runs in 14 matches, with a best-score of 99. It was this performance that helped break into the Indian team.
He however had a middling season last year. He suffered from loss of form and was dropped mid-way through the season. He however made a terrific comeback in the later stages of a tournament and scored a whirlwind 84 off just 32 deliveries, roaring back to form. In the upcoming auction, he has listed himself in the highest base-price category of 2 crores. With many teams looking for an Indian opener and wicket-keeper, Ishan Kishan becomes a player to watch out for in the auction.
