Talking about Tamil Nadu’s performance and not mentioning Sharukh Khan’s name would be a bit unfair. The swashbuckling batter has proved his worth with his match-winning performances in the recent past. With his performances, he proved how Punjab Kings made a big blunder not retaining him. For RCB, it was a difficult choice. They let go of KS Bharat, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Washington Sundar and all three of them have performed well in Hazare.
InsideSport takes a look at the five players who have performed well, proving franchises wrong about their non-retention.
IPL 2022 Auction: From Shahrukh Khan to Yuzvendra Chahal, 5 players from Vijay Hazare Trophy whose non-retentions might prove too costly-Check out
1. Shahrukh Khan (PBKS): Punjab Kings decided to retain just Arshdeep Singh and Mayank Agarwal but not Shahrukh Khan. Since then, Shahrukh has done wonders for Tamil Nadu in this domestic season. After sealing the SMAT Finals win with a six, the stylish batter continued his dominance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well.
The 26-year-old batter once again took on Karnataka bowlers in the VHT QFs and scored a 39-ball 79 and helped his team post a mammoth total on the board. The way he has performed in the recent past reflects the potential he possesses. His IPL franchise Punjab Kings might be regretting not retaining him and may even go after him in the mega auction.
2. KS Bharat (RCB): RCB opted to retain Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj, and Glenn Maxwell and didn’t want to pick the 4th retention. Amongst the stars they let go of, KS Bharat is amongst the players who have scored the bulk of runs.
The Andhra Pradesh batter did a decent job for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, he was not on the list of retained players for the IPL 2022.
With AB de Villiers gone, Bharat could have been a good option behind the wicket and also in the middle order for RCB. His performance in the VHT 2021 also speaks volumes. The wicketkeeper-batsman has aggregated 370 runs in 5 games @92.50 including two tons. Thus, RCB might look to get him back in the mega auction.

3. Shivam Mavi (KKR): Shivam Mavi has been a vital cog in Kolkata Knight Riders’ pace attack looking at his abilities to bowl with the new ball. The Uttar Pradesh-born pacer has performed brilliantly in the Vijay Hazare 2021-22. He has claimed 15 wickets from seven games at an average of 17.20 and at an economy rate of 4.38.
KKR’s retention list had two young names in the form of Venkatesh Iyer and Varun Chakravarthy while the other two slots were taken by West Indies stars- Sunil Narine and Andre Russell. However, Shivam Mavi’s performance will ring a bell in KKR owners’ heads and they may go after him in the auction once again.
4. Yuzvendra Chahal (RCB): Yuzvender Chahal had been RCB’s best bowler over the season. His exclusion from RCB’s camp was a bit surprising for every cricket fan. Moreover, his performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy contradicts RCB’s decision to let go of him. The Haryana-born leg spinner claimed 14 wickets from five games at an average of 15.00 and an economy rate of 4.35. Chahal had his troubles in the first leg of IPL 2021 but he bounced back in the UAE leg and now with VHT performance on the cards, he is just adding to RCB’s troubles.

5. Washington Sundar (RCB): The Tamil Nadu spinner is at the second position in the list of most wickets in the 2021-22 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has claimed 15 wickets at an unbelievable average of 13.93 and an economy rate of 4.47. He was ruled out of the UAE leg in IPL 2021 but before that, Sundar has done a decent job for RCB, especially in the powerplays. Apart from economic spells, he also possesses the ability to hit through the line when required. Thus, RCB would be regretting if they fail to get hold of him in the mega auction.
