IPL 2022 Retention: 5 big players unlikely to be retained despite an impressive record in last season

Harshal Patel

RCB pacer Harshal Patel who took record 32 wickets in IPL 2022- the joint most wickets in an IPL season- is likely to be sold at a huge price in the auction. RCB purchased him for just Rs 20 lakh but he played like a multi-million dollars player. Don’t be surprised if he ends up with a 10+ crore amount for his heroics in the last IPL season. A number of teams would look to keep him as a powerplay & death over specialist.

Umran Malik

Sunrisers Hyderabad player Umran Malik rose to fame with his 150 kph speed. His pace got quickly noticed and he became India’s net bowler for the recently-concluded T20 World Cup. He received just Rs 10 lakh for being part of the SRH net bowling option but ended up playing for the Orange Army. His sensational performance is likely to reward him with crores in upcoming IPL 2022 Auctions.

Josh Hazlewood

CSK pacer Josh Hazlewood is a force to be reckoned with in the IPL. His excellent performance helped Chennai Super Kings and Australia win IPL 2021 and T20 World Cup respectively. He took 11 wickets in 9 matches in the last edition of the Indian Premier League. The Australian was bought by CSK for Rs 2 crore in IPL 2020. The franchise would look to re-buy him at the IPL 2022 Auction for the upcoming season.

Lockie Ferguson

New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson is one of the fastest bowlers in world cricket. In fact, he is one the fastest bowler with a speed above 150kph with consistency. He had taken 13 wickets in just 8 appearances for IPL 2021 runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders. He was bought by KKR in 2019 at Rs 1.6 crore. His price could even double in the upcoming IPL 2022 auctions.

Chetan Sakariya

Rajasthan Royals pacer Chetan Sakariya impressed everyone with his A-game in IPL 2021. His performance even caught the eye of India selectors and he made his T20I and ODI debut during the India tour of Sri Lanka. The youngster finishes the season with 14 wickets in an equal number of matches at a phenomenal economy rate of 8.19 rpo. He was bought for Rs 1.2 crore last season. This year he is expected to go to new heights.
