As per the retention policy released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) franchises can retain maximum of 4 players. And Ashwin feels that DC will not retain him & Iyer. Ashwin during the video also said that he feels Delhi Capitals will not retain more than 3 players & according to him that should be Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw & Anrich Nortze.

It is worth noting that Ashwin joined Delhi Capitals from IPL 2020 onwards from Punjab Kings (Than Kings XI Punjab) at 7.6 Cr Salary.

Ashwin was super-successful with the franchise and has resurrected his T20 Career with performances in IPL 2020 & IPL 2021

IPL 2022 Retention: Dwayne Bravo to return – Meanwhile news coming in from CSK camp is that they will not retain Dwayne Bravo but he is certain to put his name in the IPL 2022 auction despite retiring from international cricket. The West Indies white-ball legend might have called it quits from international cricket but he is all set to return for the next edition of IPL. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed to InsideSport that DJ Bravo will be back for another season even though he is unlikely to play for CSK.

“Yes, he is going to come back for IPL 2022. He has only retired from international cricket. He is fit and can play,” Kasi Viswanathan told InsideSport. “He is coming back to IPL 2022 for sure. But I can’t confirm whether he will play for CSK next season. He has been an important player but we can only retain a maximum of four so let’s see how it goes. You will know by next week,” the CSK CEO said.

IPL 2022 Retention Rules: The 8 existing team will first get the opportunity to retain a maximum of 4 Players and thereafter the 2 new teams will be able to retain a maximum of 3 players before the auction.

The deadline for 8 existing franchises to submit their retained players list is 30th November.

IPL 2022: Retention Rules

  • Total Players Purse: ₹90 Crore
  • 4 Players retained, ₹42 Crore will be deducted from the player purse.
  • 3 retentions will lead to a reduction of ₹33 crore
  • 2 retentions will result in a deduction of ₹24 Crore from the purse.
  • 1 Retained Player: ₹14 Crore will be deducted.
  • Existing teams cannot retain more than three Indians including capped and uncapped.
  • Existing teams can retain a maximum of two overseas players.
  • Two new entrants are allowed to pick three players from the auction pool first.
  • They are not allowed to pick more than two Indians and one overseas player.
  • New teams are only allowed to pick one uncapped Indian from the three free picks.

For Existing Teams:

Not more than 3 Indians (capped / Uncapped)
Not more than 2 Overseas
Not more than 2 Indian Uncapped

For New Teams

Not more than 2 Indians (capped / Uncapped)
Not more than 1 Overseas
Not more than 1 Indian Uncapped
