“Bengaluru will host the auctions on February 12 & 13. We were in touch with the state association and the state government. As the cases have receded and the restrictions have been lifted, we will go ahead with auction in the city. It was always our first option,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed the IPL 2022 Auction dates in a statement after the IPL governing council meeting last week. However, there was no mention of the auction venue as the BCCI was still unsure whether Bengaluru could host the auction in the city due to the raging third wave. But after the Karnataka government lifted a host of restrictions on Saturday, the board has now begun preparations.

- The BCCI has confirmed Bengaluru as the auction venue despite Jay Shah not revealing the venue in his statement last week.
- After Karnataka lifted Covid restrictions, it opened the path for BCCI to conduct the auctions there.
- Bengaluru will now host the IPL 2022 Mega Auction on February 12 & 13 in Bengaluru.
- Auctions will start from 12 PM.
- Franchises have been asked to reach Bengaluru on February 11.
- On Feb 11, there will be a mock auction to prepare for the big event on Feb 12, 13.
- Last year, Hugh Edmeades conducted the auction but it is not yet known whether he will come back for a second stint or go back to Richard Madley who was a popular figure as the IPL auctioneer.
- On Feb 1, BCCI released the list of 590 players who will go under the hammer on Feb 12, 13.

The board had informed the franchises that Bengaluru will be the likely destination but had also put Mumbai as the standby venue. InsideSport has learnt that BCCI has informed the franchises to arrive in Bengaluru on February 11 for an auction briefing. A mock auction will take place as preparation.

“I am delighted to confirm that the 15th season of the IPL will start in the last week of March and will run until May end. A majority of the team owners expressed their wish that the tournament be held in India. The BCCI was always keen on staging the 2022 edition that will see two new teams – Ahmedabad and Lucknow – in India. I can tell you that we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that IPL stays in India,” BCCI Secretary Jay Shah told ANI last week.
However, now the franchises have been informed to reach Bengaluru on February 11. “We were told be ready for Bengaluru as auction venue. Considering the Covid cases in the city, it seemed a long shot. But now we have been informed that Bengaluru will be the venue as were told earlier,” a franchise official told InsideSport.
