The IPL 2022 mega auction is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on 12th and 13th February 2022.

The auction will take place after three ODI matches conclude between the Proteas against the Men in Blue in India’s tour of South Africa.

After defeating the cricketing giant of the Indian subcontinent 2-1 in the recently concluded three test match series, the Proteas would be eager to win the ODI series as well. This in turn will provide a perfect opportunity for some of these players to showcase their performances in the white-ball format, thereby impressing the 10 IPL teams to keep their names in the top spots of the latter’s wishlist.

Kagiso Rabada: The young South African pacer needs no introduction to cricket lovers. Rabada produced a decent performance in IPL 2021 where he picked up 15 wickets in 15 matches with an average of 30.40. However, in IPL, Rabada’s best stint came in 2020 where he bagged 30 wickets in 17 games with an average of 18.26. IPL 2019 was also magnificent for the 26-year-old bowler after he achieved 25 dismissals in just 12 games with an outstanding average of 14.72. Banking on his performance in the IPL for the previous three seasons, Rabada will surely be eyeing an IPL contract. 

Dean Elgar: The current test captain for the Proteas is a phenomenal batsman who would be eager to showcase his batting prowess in the IPL. Having played test cricket predominantly in his career, the short game format would be quite a challenge for Elgar. With 13 test tons and a red hot form, Elgar would surely be hoping to acquire a contract in the upcoming IPL 2022 mega auction.

Lungi Ngidi: The speedster from Durban is a terror for batsmen and with a huge career lying in front of him, Ngidi would be eager to cement his place in the legacy of the IPL. Having played just three seasons in IPL, the young 25-year-old pacer has acquired 25 wickets in 14 games. Having played just 3 games in IPL 2021 he picked 5 wickets with an average of 25.00. His best stint came in 2020 where he bagged 9 wickets in just 4 games with an average of 18.55. Ngidi would be eager to show his bowling prowess in the upcoming ODI series against India to attract the IPL franchises ahead of the mega IPL 2022 auction. 

Quinton de Kock: The former captain of South Africa is a brilliant batsman alongside an equally talented wicketkeeper. De Kock is a known name in IPL having played over 70 games in 8 seasons of the IPL. The last season was pretty average for de Kock after he registered 297 runs in 11 matches with an average of 29.70. His best stints came in 2019 and 2020 where he bagged 529 and 503 runs in 16 games respectively. De Kock will be relying on his experience to perform well in the three ODI matches to impress the franchise selectors just ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Marco Jansen: At just 21 years of age, Marco Jansen is an upcoming star. The left-handed fast bowler had his debut IPL stint in 2021 where he picked up 2 wickets in 2 games. Having an average of 7.50, Jansen has his entire career in front of him as this is just the beginning of the journey. Jansen would be desperate to perform in the ODIs to mark his spot not only in the Proteas team but also to attract some teams in the upcoming IPL 2022 mega auction.
