IPL 2022: Can laggards DC, SRH, PBKS, KKR, CSK pull things back?  At least five teams are in hunt for playoff spots with no guarantee to finish in top 4. All these teams need to win all their matches and the results should go in their favour to ensure they get to play playoffs.

Insidesport

  • RR need 1 win in their next 3 matches to book a place in the playoff while RCB also need only 1 victory in their upcoming 2 matches.
  • If the above teams achieve the feat, the likes of DC, SRH and PBKS chances will minimise as they need to win all three matches to stay in the hunt. The two teams have 10 points in 11 matches.
  • Meanwhile, KKR and CSK are still mathematically alive in the points but still there is no guarantee for a playoff spot even if they win all their remaining matches.

Gujarat Titans (2nd, 16 Points): Hardik Pandya & Co lost their match against Mumbai Indians on Friday. With Lucknow winning against KKR by a huge margin, GT slipped to second place. Titans have all but confirmed their playoff spot and a win will secure them the spot. But they will target a Top-two finish to take the advantage of featuring in Qualifier 1.

  • GT have all but confirmed their place in the playoffs with 8 wins.
  • They will now aim for a top-two finish in the league
  • GT’s remaining matches: LSG, CSK, RCB

Lucknow Super Giants (1st, 16 Points): KL Rahul & Co jumped to the top spot with a 75-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders. They are now in touching distance of the Playoffs. LSG have 16 points in 11 matches. All they need to do now is to win a match out of the remaining 3 to QUALIFY for playoffs.

  • Win at least one match out of 3 to seal qualification.
  • If they lose the remaining three badly, they will still qualify if other results go their way.
  • 18-point mark is the safe bet while teams can qualify with 16 points as well.
  • LSG Remaining matches: GT, RR, KKR

Rajasthan Royals (3rd, 14 Points): Sanju Samson’s RR side remained on third spot after their 6-wicket win against Punjab Kings. But they remain one of the favourites to qualify for the playoffs. Rajasthan only need two more wins to guarantee a place in the playoffs with three games left in the tournament.

  • RR need to win at least two in three remaining matches to seal their deal.
  • RR can also qualify with 16 points or one win in three games but other results will have to go their way.
  • RR Remaining Matches: DC, LSG, CSK

Royal Challengers Bangalore (4th, 14 Points): Faf du Plessis’ Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clinched a much-needed win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad to boost their qualification hopes. The 67-run thrashing also boosted their poor NRR keeping them in contention for the spot in the top 4.

  • RCB need to win all of their two remaining games to seal playoff spot.
  • RCB can qualify with 1 wins in 2 matches but or 16 points but other results will have to go their way.

Punjab Kings (8th, 10 Points): Punjab Kings are on the verge of elimination. Their 6-wicket loss against Rajasthan Royals dented their hopes. They need to win all three remaining matches to be in the hunt and have to win big to improve NRR. But even after winning all three games, they can be eliminated.

  • PBKS have to win all three remaining matches.
  • PBKS will also have to improve their NRR which stands at -0.231.
  • Two wins in three matches or 14 points won’t be enough for them to qualify.
  • PBKS Remaining Matches: RCB, DC, SRH

Delhi Capitals (5th, 10 Points): Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered a catastrophic 91-run loss to Chennai Super Kings. The thrashing badly hit their NRR which will be the differentiator in the Top 4 race. DC will now need to win all their three remaining matches to qualify for the playoffs.

  • DC will also have to improve their NRR which took a hit.
  • DC Remaining matches: RR, PBKS, MI

  • KKR need to win all of their 2 remaining matches.
  • Even after winning all their games, they can reach a maximum of 14 points.
  • With three teams locked in at 10 points each and three other teams above that mark, 14 points will not be enough to qualify.
  • KKR Remaining Matches: SRH, LSG

Chennai Super Kings (9th, 8 Points): Already out of playoff race, CSK played a spoilsport with a massive 91-run win against Delhi Capitals. That helped them jump to 8th spot with 8 points.

  • Even if CSK win all their remaining three matches, they will not be able to qualify for Playoffs.
  • CSK will reach a maximum of 14 points if they win all the remaining three and that will not be enough.
  • CSK Remaining Matches: MI, GT, RR

Mumbai Indians (10th, 4 Points): The team that has won the title 5 times—most in IPL history—are lying at the bottom of the IPL 2022 Points Table. Mumbai Indians won their second game of the season by beating Gujarat Titans on Friday, but they are already eliminated from the playoffs race.

  • Even if MI win all of their remaining 3 matches, they will not be able to qualify as they will score only 10.
  • The cut-off for 10-team IPL is likely to be 16 while teams on 14 points can also qualify based on NRR.
  • MI have a negative NRR of -0.894 and even big wins in the last five won’t be enough.
  • MI remaining matches: CSK, SRH, DC
