According to a report by The Telegraph, Sources within the KKR set-up, past and present, made a few observations about the CEO’s functioning.
“Quite a few senior and international players were so annoyed with his interference at different points in time that some even contemplated leaving the camp midway during the previous IPLs”
According to the report, the source in KKR camp has accussed the CEO of continuous interference in the selection matters.
“During the time Gautam Gambhir & Trevor Bayliss were captain and head coach, the CEO mostly stayed in the background. But after both Gambhir and Bayliss departed, the CEO’s involvement in team matters, both big and small, increased.”, the report claimed.

IPL 2022: All is not well in KKR camp after Shreyas Iyer’s statement ‘CEO involved in team selection’, more uncomfortable voices emerge from Knight Riders team
KKR CEO Selection Interference? Shreyas Iyer vs KKR CEO: KKR has been listless this season. The are currently seventh in the IPL Points table with 10 points from 12 matches.
KKR have used five different opening combinations in 12 games, at the expense of stability. The KKR skipper was asked about the constant chopping and changing in the team selections after they defeated Mumbai Indians in the last game.
“It’s really difficult. I was also in that position once when I started playing IPL. We discuss with the coaches, CEO is also involved in team selection. Baz (head coach Brendon McCullum) goes to the players and tells them if they are not playing.”
The comment by Iyer raised eyebrows. And the questions started doing the rounds, where does the power centre lie? Does Shreyas have the leeway to be his own man? Is he the one making selection decisions?
The Telegraph has further reported “that the CEO has a significant say in every meeting related to the team”. InsideSport independently could not verify the report.

Kolkata Knight Riders (7th, 10 Points): Shreyas Iyer & Co’s playoffs hopes are hanging on a thread after KKR registered a 52-run win against Mumbai Indians. KKR will need to win their remaining matches by a big margin.
- KKR need to win all of their 2 remaining matches.
- Even after winning all their games, they can reach a maximum of 14 points.
- With three teams locked in at 10 points each and three other teams above that mark, 14 points will not be enough to qualify.
- KKR Remaining Matches: SRH, LSG
