IPL 2022 – Mark Wood Replacement: Lucknow Supergiants were dealt with a hammer blow even before their first game in IPL, as it was revealed that star English pacer Mark Wood will not be available for IPL 2022. Follow IPL 2022 live updates on InsideSport.IN.
Wood sustained a right elbow injury earlier this month in the first match of England’s ongoing Test series against the West Indies, which will keep him on the sidelines throughout the duration of the competition. Hence, the KL Rahul-led team is now facing a big dilemma about selecting the best alternative for the INR 7.50 crores worth player.

Check out five bowlers who can replace Mark Wood:
1. Andrew Tye
Andrew Tye had a base price of INR 1 crore in the auction, but could not find a buyer. He has played 27 matches in this competition and has picked up 40 wickets, which includes a fantastic 24-wicket season back in 2018.
2. Kane Richardson
Kane Williamson going unsold in the IPL 2022 auction might have surprised many, but Wood’s injury could prove the Aussie speedster with an opportunity to return in this competition. He has picked up 19 wickets in his 15 IPL appearances.

3. Sheldon Cottrell
Sheldon Cottrell was one of the most sought-after T20 bowlers only a couple of years ago, where he was roped in by Punjab Kings for INR 8.50 crore. Though he did not justify his price tag, picking up 6 wickets in as many matches, Cottrell will be a good option as Wood’s replacement.
4. Naveen-ul-Haq

Now, Afghan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq can follow suit if Lucknow picks him as Wood’s replacement. The youngster is a well-travelled cricketer, having played for franchises like Kandy Tuskers, Guyana Amazon Warriors and Khulna Tigers. He has picked up 18 wickets in 13 T20I matches.
5. Oshane Thomas
Oshane Thomas, Cottrell’s West Indian teammate, was a part of Rajasthan Royals back in 2019, where he did a fairly decent job by picking up 5 wickets in 4 matches at an economy rate of under 8 runs per over.
