1. IPL 2022 Dates, Venues & Schedule will be announced
IPL Date Schedule Announcement: The IPL is just over month away from kicking off and the BCCI are staring at a busy few days with some major announcements set to be made. The Indian Cricket Board have tentatively mentioned March 27 as the start date of the IPL 2022 season, but are yet to reveal a full schedule or format of the same.
Even though BCCI had zeroed in on March 27 as the start date, as per a report by Cricbuzz, Star has requested BCCI to consider advancing the date to March 26. When contacted a BCCI official revealed that a decision on this will be taken soon and the fixture will be released by next week.
As far as the venue is concerned, IPL 2022 is likely to be held in Maharashtra, with Mumbai and Pune. Pune’s MCA Stadium and Mumbai’s Brabourne, Wankhede and DY Patil Patil Stadium will host the league stage games while Reliance’s Jio Stadium is also up for consideration in Mumbai. Ahmedabad and Kolkata serve as potential options for the playoffs, but a decision on that will be taken later.

2. BCCI to release IPL Media Rights Tender
IPL Media Rights Tender: BCCI is set for a huge money shower this time not only by media giants the incumbents Disney Star Network & Sony – but also by deep-pocketed rivals like Reliance Industries & E-Commerce giant Amazon Inc.
Amazon.com Inc and Reliance Industries Ltd are expected to take on India units of Sony Group Corp and Walt Disney Co for exclusive five-year TV and digital broadcast rights to the two-month series of matches, at a cost that could run to a record 500 billion rupees ($6.7 billion), sources familiar with the companies’ plans said.
Disney-owned Star India, which is one of the top broadcasters in India along with Sony and its planned acquisition Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd, paid 163.48 billion rupees for the digital and television rights until 2022. The league’s matches reached 350 million viewers during the first half of the 2021 season alone.
3. RCB & PBKS to announce their captains
RCB PBKS Captain Announcement: While their preparations for the season have been set in motion, both Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore are yet to name their captains heading into the IPL 2022 season. While Punjab lost KL Rahul to Lucknow, RCB saw Virat Kohli resign after the end of last season to focus more on his batting.
As things stand, it is a two-way tussle between Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan for the Punjab Kings armband. Agarwal has previously led the Kings in Kl Rahul’s absence, but Dhawan’s experience could see him pip the Karnataka star.
As for RCB, Faf du Plessis seems the obvious candidate and will take up the mantle having joined the side from CSK for Rs 7 crore. A former South African captain, Du Plessis has won the IPL under MS Dhoni and brings in a wealth of respect and experience. Glenn Maxwell is also another candidate but Australia will miss the first few games of IPL 2022 due to his wedding.
